The working principle of Rodless Cylinder is to use the permanent magnet in the hollow piston rod to drive another magnet outside the piston rod to move, so as to realize the reciprocating motion of the load connected to the external magnet.
First, a set of high-strength permanent magnetic rings are installed on the piston. The magnetic lines of force act on another set of magnetic rings in the outer slider through the thin-walled cylinder. Since the two sets of magnetic rings have opposite magnetic properties, they have strong mutual attraction.
When the piston is pushed by the air pressure in the cylinder, the piston moves. At the same time, the magnetic ring in the outer slider is affected by the magnetic lines of force of the magnetic ring on the piston to move synchronously.
The thrust of the cylinder piston must be adapted to the suction of the inner and outer magnetic rings. When the air pressure is too high or the load is too heavy, the piston thrust is too large, and the attraction between the magnetic rings cannot be maintained, the inner and outer magnetic rings will be disengaged, and the cylinder will work abnormally, which is called off-target.
The magnetic coupling rodless cylinder is connected to the external magnetic platform through the internal magnetic ring for synchronous operation, so its characteristics are small overall installation size and small axial space, which saves about 50% of axial space compared with the standard cylinder. The piston areas at both ends of the thrust and pull of the magnetic coupling rodless cylinder are equal, so the thrust and pull values are equal, and it is easy to achieve intermediate positioning.
When the piston speed is 250mm/s, the positioning accuracy can reach ±1.0mm. The surface of the piston rod of the standard cylinder is prone to dust accumulation and rust, and the rod seal may absorb dust impurities, causing leakage, while the external slider of the magnetic coupling rodless cylinder has no dynamic seal and no external leakage.
The magnetic coupling rodless cylinder can produce ultra-long stroke specifications. The ratio of the inner diameter to the stroke of the standard cylinder is generally not more than 1/15, while the ratio of the inner diameter to the stroke of the rodless cylinder can reach about 1/100, and the stroke length is produced to within 3m, which meets the needs of long stroke applications.
However, the magnetic coupling rodless cylinder also has some disadvantages, that is, the precision is not high, and once the magnetism weakens, it is easy to cause accidents. Its application is gradually decreasing, and there are relatively few magnetic coupling rodless cylinders produced in China.
Today, the use of magnetic coupling rodless cylinders on industrial production equipment has gradually been eliminated. Mechanical rodless cylinders have become the mainstream pneumatic products on current equipment.
